Show and Tell !!!!

Pictures from Center time this week!

What a Great Week!

This week went great!  Students are beginning to understand what is and will be expected of them this year.  Third Grade is tough!  We add two hardback books and tons more responsibility.  Although some things are harder, it has been a lot of FUN!
Remember if you need to check your child out early, please either send me a note that morning or a quick email.  I will have your child packed up and ready  when you arrive.  Students are writing down their own homework, and this takes time.  Please do not rely on your child to “tell” me what the plans are for the afternoon if things are different than normal.
Please remember to check over your child's homework and homework folder each night. You will not always know when I will be taking a daily grade, so it is a good idea to review homework.  When we work on something in class and check it together, we put it in our homework folder.  So things with  stickers or red marks can stay at home.  Go over any of these with your child for a review.  We will have our Reading Vocabulary Quiz and Comprehension Quiz on Thursdays and Spelling Tests  on FridaysThis week, our Spelling Test and Reading Quiz went well.    I am very proud of our hard work.  What a terrific start!
  TEST ALERT!!!!
Next week.....Wed.  ~ Language test over Chapter 1 (complete sentences, statements, commands, question, exclamation)
Thurs.  ~ Math test over Chapter 1  ( place value, adding and subtracting)

Magazine Sale Info!!!!!! Your Child Wants a Duck!!!!

Quack, Quack, Quack.......calling all DUCKS!!! This year during the magazine sale we have a collectible prize, which is a small themed rubber duck.  The ducks will be worn on a lanyard given to the children when they are earned. You may ask how can the kids earn DUCKS?

* They will receive 1 DUCK for every 5 completed post cards turned in THIS FRIDAY ONLY.
* For every 2 magazines turned in on Wed 8/25 (1st turn in day) they will receive 1 duck. For example, if they turn in 8 magazines they will receive 4
 DUCKS.
* For the next 2 turn in days, they will receive 1 DUCK for turning in any managazines, no matter how many.
* Also, there will be a mystery child's name chosen at the beginning of the sale and revealed at the end of the sale.  If the one chosen has earned     any DUCKS during the sale, then they will receive $5 for each DUCK.
* When the children earn their DUCKS, they will be able to "FEED" their DUCKS during lunch.  They will be able to pick out other smaller prizes per
  Duck earned.

As you can tell, the first turn in date will be the most rewarding and easy way to earn DUCKS.  So, please encourage your students to sell more magazines EARLY. Another reason the first turn in date is important is because we have another promotion called EIGHT TO PLAY.  That means that if they turn in 8 magazines on the FIRST TURN IN DAY ONLY, then the child not only earns DUCKS, they will also be qualified to participate in the Games2U gaming event.  This includes a large outdoor laser tag and video gaming systems that will be brought to campus.  The kids will be able to participate for an hour that will be determined by Mr.Collins after the sale ends.  If a child really wants to participate in the Games2U event and they do not turn in 8 magazines by the first turn in date, they still have a chance to qualify.  They will have to sell 12 magazines by the end of the sale if they wait.

We will also still have our holiday if we reach our goal of $50,000. In addition, if we reach our Super Goal of $60,000 then one family will win $500 CASH.  For every 2 magazines you sell, you will have your name put into a drawing for the $500 CASH.  For example, if you sell 8 magazines by the first turn in date, then your child will receive 4 DUCKS, a chance to "feed" each DUCK, qualify to participate in the Games2U event and they will have their name put into a drawing 4 times for the $500 CASH if we meet our Super Goal.

Hopefully, this explanation clears up any confusion with the DUCKS.  The biggest take away is to really encourage them to turn in the most magazines on 8/25 instead of waiting. Also, they can begin collecting their DUCKS early then by turning in their completed post cards THIS FRIDAY.  For every 5 post cards turned in this Friday only they can begin earning 1 DUCK.

I am having a blast seeing everyone and meeting our new families.  We received a large shipment last week of new T-Shirts and have already almost sold out.  The homecoming order form is coming home very soon.  Homecoming is September 24th, and we will need to get these orders turned around pretty quick in order to have T-Shirts delivered timely.

We are trying to get into our new location just as quickly as possible.  It is very close to completion, and I plan on setting up this weekend for our first home game!

A Few First Day Pics!

Happy Birthday, Lindsey!

We learned that pennies are like people ....they vary in color, condition, and age,  but  all pennies have equal value as do all people!

What a GREAT FIRST DAY we had!

I am so proud of each student for being so receptive of our third grade routine!   Thank you all for an awesome first day!
          * We have 3 new students ~ Ashton Chambers, Casey Richardson, and Graci Ward!  Welcome, students!  We are so glad to have you and your families!
          * Our lunch time is 11:35 -12:05.  We will have Art, Music, Library, Science Lab, and Computer classes each week.  We have physical education Mon, Wed., and Fri. (10:45-11:20) Remember to wear tennis shoes!
*Please remember to check over your child's homework and homework pad each night.  Our Reading Checkpoint will be every Thursday. Spelling Tests are Fridays.
*I will be sending home Friday Folders.  Please check over these and return them on Monday.  This is a good time to see what your child may need to work on at home.  Papers on the RIGHT side need to be RETURNED!  Papers on the LEFT side... LEAVE AT HOME.  Please sign the Week's Work sheet and send back the stapled papers and folder on Monday!
*Students may bring a snack and water bottle (with some sort of lid) each day.  Please no sodas, power drinks, etc.
          * The carpool tags were sent home with your child.  Please place these in the front windshield(right side) of the car that will be picking up your child.  This will help us at carpool time!
*If you are new to TSA or you need to make any changes to your child’s information (ex.  address change, medication, grandparents’ add., etc.), please go to tattnall.org.  Find the Form and Publications link on the front page.   Print and fill out any pages that apply to you, and then return them to me.
