In Language and Math .......

  • In Language, we are talking about nouns ~ plural, singular, possessive, and plural possessive, and abbreviations.
·       I need your help.  In Math, we are working with money ~ counting, making change, and adding and subtracting amounts.  With making change, we are working on "counting on".  Example  ~ Your total is $4. 29.  You give the clerk a $5.00 bill.  If she did not have a cash register, she would hand you back and count~ 1 penny ($4.30), 2 dimes ($4.50), and 2 quarters ($5.00).  Your change would total $.71.  Count from your total to the amount you handed the clerk.  I hope this makes sense.  This is a tough skill, but an important one. Any help you can do at home with this,  would be great for us.   We will continue working at school!

OWL PELLETS!

Well, how did you like the owl pellets!  The students were unsure at first, but soon realized they are cool!!!  No, a pellet is not owl poop. (as some of them thought ~ gross!)  A pellet contains things that the owl cannot digest.  The pellet is regurgitated.  It is so neat to see the bones in a pellet!  They were hit.Mr. Kosater observed our class and video taped the children dissecting their owl pellets. He will be posting the video to the elementary blog. This was a fun and exciting unit!  The children loved learning about owls!!

Service Project!

After our GrandKids' trip, we stopped by the Children's Hospital to deliver our  baskets filled with crayons, coloring books, markers, etc.... Child Life Specialist, Megan Schoch, aTattnall graduate, was there to greet us.  She thanked the students for donating the items. She told the children a little bit about how the items would help the patients at the Children's Hospital. She also took pictures and said they would be used in some of the MCCG's publications.  A BIG THANKS to ALL who donated for this!!!  Your generosity is much appreciated!!!  Thank you to all the parents that were drivers and chaperones today,  also!  We had to cross busy streets, and we made it back with EVERYONE!!!  :)  Way to go, parents and students!!!!!!

GrandKids ~ CSI : LIVE

Our trip went great today!!!!  CSI:Live  was the program.  We were CSI "trainees" !!!  Lorelai and Kyle (from Mrs. Miller's class) were called to the stage to help in the investigation and test evidence.  We are so proud of them!  The show was so interesting, and the Grand Opera House is such a  cool place, too!  We will learn a little more about the Grand Opera House when we do our Georgia/ Macon unit.  I was so proud of our Third Graders!
They represented Tattnall well today!!

What a Great week we had!  The weather was gorgeous, and the students were outstanding!  Everything was just so normal!  We had fun with hat day!  Thank you for supporting the Jay’s Hope Foundation!
This week, we read a true story about a courageous dog named, Balto.  Next week, we will be reading and seeing pictures about animals that live near or on the Galapagos Island.
We have also started our first unit in science.  It is on rocks and minerals. The kids seem to LOVE it!!!  It has a lot of information and should be very fun!  We have started our rock collection!  We are “ROCKING” right along!!!!!  Sorry!! :)
In math, we will be working on subtraction!  Remember to review addition and subtraction flashcards from time to time.  You will notice some speed drills(they are timed) in our Friday Folders.  I am not taking grades on these, but if you notice that your child is missing a lot, please spend some extra time reviewing.
We are growing and maturing each day! October has brought some cool weather, but the learning in room 502 is heating up!  Thanks for all you do to encourage your child to do his/her best!!  I am enjoying this group!!!!!
