Week of Jan. 12-14.......

It was a lot of fun hearing all the "snow" stories this morning!  To go along with our compare/contrast skill, we did a venn diagram on snow and ice!!!  It was fun , and we decided that most of us got ice not snow!  Well whichever it was, the students just know that it gave them 2 days off!!!!  So here are a few reminders for this week......

Reading ~ "Coyote Places the Stars" ~ compare/ contrast ~ Checkpoint on Friday
Spelling ~ homophones ~ Test Friday
Math ~ multiplication ~ Study those facts~
Language ~ verb tenses
Science ~ Heat
Bible ~ memorize the Books of the New Testament -and reading about Moses and the Burning Bush and the plagues of  Egypt that God sent

Reminder -  Monday, January 17, is a school holiday!  No school!

What We Are Working On.....

  • Spelling:  /or/ words   and homophones
  • Reading: "Papa Tells Chita a Story" - historical fiction/Spanish American War
  •              next week ~ "Coyote Places the Stars" ~  Native American Tale
  • Focus skill: summarizing  and comparing/contrasting
  • Language: "How To.." writing and verb tenses -  The students did an awesome job on their writing!!!!  I had such a good time reading their final drafts!!
  • Math: multiplication  ......Drill those multiplication facts daily!!!  All students need that daily repetition.  There is no easy way...just good old memorization is the key.  We have studied the twos, threes, fours, fives, sixes, and tens so far.  We are working on accuracy AND speed!  We will be moving onto 7s and 8s next week!

  • Science: heat and temperature
  • Bible: new virtue/determination and memory verse/Hebrews 12:1   -     I have challenged the children this month to memorize the names of the books of the New Testament in order. This will go along with our "R-U-N Challenges" for 252 Basics for January. We will break the books down into five categories: the gospels, history, letters to churches, letters written by people, and prophecy. I am excited to see their enthusiasm as we begin this challenge! I know you as parents will help them as they study these books at home, too.  The study sheet is in your child's Friday Folder.

*Be sure to check the TSA blog and the school's website for January happenings. As always, we are busy and doing a lot of fun things at TSA!

P.S. Wish items: Our class could use more zip lock bags (the sandwich sized ones),  dry erase markers, candy for the treat bucket, Lysol spray and Clorox wipes!   We are in the flu season!  AAACHOOO!
Thanks!
