First Week....CHECK!

This week went great!  Students are beginning to understand what is and will be expected of them this year.  Third Grade is tough!  We add two hardback books and tons more responsibility.  Although some things are harder, it has been a lot of FUN!
Please remember to check over your child's homework and homework folder each night. You will not always know when I will be taking a daily grade, so it is a good idea to review homework.  We try to go by the “Left-Leave and Right-Return”, but the children are packing their folders sooooo....sometimes things get on the wrong side.  It is always a good idea to ask your child about a sheet BEFORE you throw it away.  We will have our Reading Vocabulary Quiz and Comprehension Quiz and Spelling Tests  on FridaysThis week, our Spelling Test and Reading Quiz went well.    I am very proud of our hard work.  What a terrific start!
What a sweet group!!!

Is it Friday yet???????
I am enjoying getting to know your children.
I LOVE my group!!!!!! They are so full of personality and sweet!  Thanks for all you do to help us in our classroom!

Magazine Volunteers Needed!

Jenny Stubbs is in need of some help with the magazine sale.  She needs help on Wednesday and Friday mornings.  If you can help, please email her at jmjstubbs@cox.net.
I am sure she would appreciate it!

Penny Activity! A Lesson on Friendship!

What can a penny teach a student about friendship, tolerance, and uniqueness?  Plenty!  Students were given a penny.  They carefully studied their pennies and then compared their pennies to a classmates.  The found differences in color, physical condition, age, and even shape.   What  is the one thing all the pennies have in common?  Its value!  Pennies are like people in that they both vary in color, condition, shape, and age. BUT all pennies have equal value as do all people!!!!   We are all God's people, and he loves us all!  COOL!!!

A Glance at Our Week ~ Aug. 15

We have had a wonderful start to our week! I am so proud of the children!  We have learned new routines and rules!  Please help your child become responsible and check his/her agenda daily. Homework assignments are written down each day by the students. We go over the necessary books, notebooks, etc. that are needed for homework each day. You knowing what is for homework and making sure your child does it is very important too.  Agendas, spelling notebooks, and homework folders will come home daily M - Th.  Remember that Spelling and Reading tests are on Fridays of each week.  Other subjects will be tested over as we finish that unit of study.
Here is a look at some of the things we will be studying this week: Reading: "Officer Buckle and Gloria"
Vocabulary study and decoding long words (focus skill)
Spelling: words with short a or short e
Language: types of sentences (statement, command, question, exclamation)
Math: place value/skip counting, patterns, standard form, expanded form, and word form
Social Studies: begin our unit on communities

Remember that this Friday will be our first Show and Tell. Help your child pick an item to bring in and be sure they can tell the class some neat things about his/her show and tell. This Friday is also Spirit Day with casual dress. (See the student handbook for clarification, if needed)
